Isfahan Science and Technology Town (ISTT) celebrated the renewal of the agreement with UNESCO for the continuation of activities at Isfahan Regional Center for Technology Incubators and Science Parks Development (IRIS) under the auspices of UNESCO. The celebration which incorporated 450 international and domestic guests, including the Director and Representative of UNESCO’s Tehran Cluster Office, and Iran’s Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology coincided with the celebration of ISTT’s 20th anniversary of establishment. The signing ceremony for the renewal of the agreement took place during the celebration.

IRIS has been under the auspices of UNESCO since 2010. This periodic agreement with ISTT as its host was initially extended for 6 years and its continuation was subjected to further performance evaluations at the end of its duration. With the expiration of the initial agreement period, UNESCO’s team of experts conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the institutes past performance and determined the scope of its activity and affectability. In the report presented at the 197th session of the UNESCO’s executive board, the review team concluded that “IRIS has conducted various activities to support UNESCO’s programs and activities in promoting a culture of innovation, significantly in assisting UNESCO’s member states in the development of Science parks and Technology Incubators, and should therefore be allowed to continue its endeavors throughout the region under the auspices of UNESCO”. Thus the renewal of the agreement between the Iranian Government and UNESCO for the continuation of IRIS’s activities at ISTT was approved. The announcement to renew IRIS’s agreement was received eagerly from IRIS and ISTT which have many future plans for the development of the STP environment throughout the region.
